Q:
What Should I Know Before Dental Implant Surgery?
- Eat normally before surgery and brush your teeth afterward.
- Patients with hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease, or other conditions should continue prescribed medications and follow their doctor’s pre-op instructions.
- Patients with blood disorders, abnormal coagulation, those taking anticoagulants, or osteoporosis patients using bisphosphonates must inform their dentist in advance for proper planning.
- Avoid catching a cold around the time of surgery. Do not smoke, drink alcohol, or (for female patients) wear makeup on the day of surgery.
- If you feel discomfort during surgery, signal by raising your left hand or humming gently. The dentist will pause and communicate with you.
